FAQ
Questions behind the profiles.
Short answers on the line-up, the ratings and playing on different devices.
Why these five games?
All five are free to start, built around teams and run official ranked modes. Together they cover the shapes groups argue about: hero shooters, a tactical shooter, a battle royale and a MOBA, with sides of three, five and six.
Are they really free?
All five can be played without paying. Rainbow Six Siege's free access stops short of Ranked and the full operator roster, which need a paid edition. The other four sell battle passes, cosmetics and random items, and each profile names them.
Do any of them sell random rewards?
Yes, all five, which is why PEGI rates them 16 or 18. Apex Legends sells Apex Packs; Marvel Rivals runs timed costume draws; PEGI lists paid random items for Overwatch, Rainbow Six Siege and SMITE 2. The Play safe page explains how to set a limit.
Which games work for two or three players?
Apex Legends has Duos and Trios, so two or three friends fill a squad. SMITE 2's Joust is 3v3. In Overwatch, Marvel Rivals and Siege a pair or a trio queues with strangers.
What about a group of six?
Marvel Rivals is six a side. Overwatch's 6v6 Open Queue and Siege's Dual Front also seat six.
Can we play on a Mac?
None of the five has a macOS version. All five run on Windows PC and on PlayStation and Xbox; Overwatch and Apex Legends also run on Nintendo Switch.
Are the squares a score?
No. They describe what a game asks of a group. A full row on rules to learn suits a group that wants a long project and puts off a group that wants to play tonight.
Do publishers pay for placement?
No. There are no paid placements, and links to official sites carry no referral code.
